Baltimore History Evenings: Garrett Power

Three Baltimore Plaintiffs
Garrett Power
Controversies can tell the tale of a city’s development—but sometimes the litigants are more story-worthy than their lawsuits. This talk profiles three memorable plaintiffs: an apologist for lynching who championed Black power; a Christian capitalist Socialist socialite, and a rapacious raider who is best remembered as a narcissistic philanthropist.
Garrett Power is a Professor Emeritus at the University of Maryland School of Law.
After a resoundingly successful first season in 2009, Baltimore History Evenings return for another six-month run beginning Thursday, January 21. This free series, jointly presented by the Baltimore City Historical Society and the Village Learning Place, features lectures by historians of our city, time for informal discussion, and refreshments.
Baltimore History Evenings are held from 7:00 to 9:00 pm on the third Thursday of every month from January to June.
