LINK Bucks Student Rewards: You can help!

Posted on January 9th, 2012 by kate.maskarinec

Let’s Invest in Neighborhood Kids (LINK) After School has unveiled a new plan for students in an effort to focus on and reward the positive behaviors that students exhibit on a daily basis. Each day, students have an opportunity to earn LINK Bucks – these bucks are saved and tallied throughout the week. On a weekly basis, students are able to choose a small item from a treasure box. These small items include pencils, stickers, bracelets, and small toys. Once a month, students who have chosen to save their LINK Bucks can visit the LINK Store. At the Store, students can choose larger prizes such as jump ropes, footballs, or “gift certificates” for lunch at school with a LINK staff member.

How does a student earn LINK Bucks? LINK Bucks are tied to the VLP’s effort to partner with Margaret Brent Elementary/Middle School’s character education efforts. Each week, there is a different Word of the Week that the students are taught and then encouraged to exemplify. Students who demonstrate an understanding of and an ability to internalize the Word of the Week can earn LINK Bucks. Furthermore, students who show leadership in their classrooms, who make positive choices, and who follow the LINK Rules of showing respect, always trying one’s best, and being thoughtful, kind, and honest can earn LINK Bucks.

You can help! To be able to sustain our supply of rewards for these amazing, model students, we need help with keeping our Store stocked. For our younger students, puzzles, games, and small toys would be greatly appreciated. For our older students, sports equipment, make-up, and “cool” school supplies are always a winner.

This new endeavor has improved morale amongst our students, teamwork amongst our classrooms, and a sense of fun amongst our staff. It is always a pleasure to be able to acknowledge those students who are always doing the right thing, and who are most definitely the future leaders of this community!
