Over the past decade, hundreds of community residents have volunteered to do everything from tutoring children to gardening to refinishing woodwork in the building. Each year, more than 120 local residents volunteer their time to serve on our board and committees, work in the library, or assist in the after-school or summer programs.
These volunteers are crucial to our organization both because of the hard work they do and because their presence strengthens the VLP as a true nexus of the community.
Current/Upcoming Volunteer Opportunities:
- Spaghetti Disco Noodle Wranglers: We’re looking for volunteer “noodle wranglers” to lend their hands and time at our annual Spaghetti Disco celebration on Saturday, February 25, 2012.
- Read Across America Day Volunteers: Do you have an our or two to spare in the morning on Friday, March 2, 2012 (likely sometime between 9am and 12pm) ? If so, consider helping out with Read Across America Day at the VLP. We need volunteers to help staff make sure things run smoothly, to pass out books, and to help with craft projects!
- Special LINK Program Literacy Volunteer: Let’s Invest in Neighborhood Kids (LINK) After School staff are seeking one or more volunteers to work directly to assist students significantly below grade level. We are seeking eager and willing volunteers to teach topics such as letter and sound recognition using Sonday System and SRA Early Intervention System. Don’t worry- volunteers can be trained in the two programs in order to provide efficient and profound help to student! Student will receive a minimum of half hour sessions three days a week is necessary anytime between Monday-Friday, 3:00-5:30. Any extra time invested would be greatly appreciated.
