You helped us turn a waitlist into a classroom!

On Monday, October 3, the waitlisted 1st & 2nd graders began attending our LINK After School program. Mr. Cody (our newest AmeriCorps program assistant) is leading the new class. With your support, this year, LINK After School will serve a total of 120 students!

Our 6th Grade LINK Students Celebrate VLP!

Friday, May 27th, 2016

As most of our friends know, between May 13 and May 15 there was a flood at the VLP’s 2510 space. Water covered the floor for 10 hours or more and the space sustained extensive damage. The 6th grade LINK students decided to make a video to uplift spirits and express their love for the VLP!

Village Learning Place Suffers Flood Damage and Loss of Program Space & Supplies

Tuesday, May 17th, 2016

On Sunday, May 15, 2016, the Village Learning Place sustained extensive water damage in our classrooms and admin office at 2510 Saint Paul Street after a hot water heater pipe burst in the ceiling resulting in three inches of standing water covering 6,000 square feet of office space and student classrooms.

Books, bookshelves, program supplies, office supplies, energy efficient power strips and personal belongings were all destroyed in the resulting flood of water.

The Village Learning Place runs the nationally recognized LINK (Let’s Invest in Neighborhood Kids) After School Program, a free academic program for over 120 neighborhood youth. The heavy losses due to water damage caused the LINK program to shut down for one day on Monday, May 16th. But, thanks to the flexibility of Ms. Pamela Smith, Principal of partnering school Margaret Brent Elementary/Middle, LINK was back in business today using borrowed space at the school!

Unfortunately, the Village Learning Place office and classroom space will not be back to normal as quickly. Contractors estimate renovations to the top floor of 2510 could take 2-3 months.

To support efforts to rebuild program space before summer, please make a contribution to the VLP here or join us for our Rum & Reggae fundraiser on June 3!
