The LINK After School program provides students with challenging, dynamic programming and nutritious snacks and supper every weekday throughout the school year. The academic focus of the LINK programs is on reading, mathematics, and science. The enrichment component of LINK After School includes lessons in service learning, art, technology, character education, and physical activities.

The VLP is looking for a committed individual who wants to increase their experience working with urban youth.

Dates and Times:  Monday, Wednesday, & Thursday from 2pm-5:30pm. Tuesday from 11am-5:30pm.  Occasional Friday afternoons may be scheduled. Early September to end of May.  School-year position is for part-time employment during the after-school hours (14-18 hours/week).  This position involves working some evenings and occasional weekend hours.

The Assistant Teacher works closely with the Academic Teachers and other program staff to provide the LINK After School Program.  Assistants help to provide academic support for students by assisting in the delivery of lessons in reading, math, and science. They work one-on-one or in small groups with students to help strengthen academic areas and help to set up and break down educational activities, equipment, and manipulatives. The Assistant Teacher models positive social behavior and has the ability to foster good relationships with children, parents, and families. In addition, the Assistant Teacher will substitute for the Academic Teachers, as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • One to two years teaching or working as a classroom aid in an urban setting
  • College course work in Education or related field (Experience can substitute for college requirement)
  • Experience in restorative practices and inclusion preferred
  • Patience, flexibility, initiative, creativity
  • Ability to organize and plan
  • Commitment to providing service to a diverse population
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills for working with both children and adults

 Starting Compensation:  $12-$15/hr
