Summer Academic Teacher 3rd/4th grade

The VLP is looking for a committed individual who wants to increase their experience working with urban youth. This position is 40 hour/week for an 9-week summer assignment including staff training and orientation.

LINK (Let’s Invest in Neighborhood Kids) Summer at the Village Learning Place is an educational and creative program offering lessons in writing, reading, and math plus enrichment workshops and weekly field trips! This full-day program is for current pre-kindergarten through sixth grade students (rising K to rising 7th graders). The program runs 5 days per week, Monday-Friday, from 9:00am-4:00pm. LINK Summer is designed to prevent summer learning loss and to inspire creativity.

The Summer Academic Teacher is responsible for managing all classroom activities in the VLP’s summer program including:  academic curriculum delivery, two enrichment periods, attendance tracking, management of volunteers and classroom assistants, and oversight of program field trips and events.

Dates and times: Monday – Friday from 8:30am-4:30pm. June 24 to August 19 (+Teacher In-Service day in early June). This position involves working some evenings for summer staff meetings and Family Fun Night.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 2-3 years teaching experience in an urban setting
  • B.A. in Education or related field; Teaching certification required
  • Flexibility, initiative, creativity, and excellent organizational and planning skills
  • Commitment to providing service to a diverse, urban population
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills for working with both children and adults

Starting Compensation: $17-$20/hour
