Get a Library Card
A VLP Library card gives you access to our books, computers, resources, and programs and services. It's easy to sign up for a free library card at the Village Learning Place.
How to Apply
Print and fill out a Library Card Application form and bring it to the circulation desk of the VLP Library with proper ID.
Please present one of the following photo IDs along with your library card application.
- Driver's license
- State-issued identification card
- Government-issued ID - passport, permanent resident card, military, etc.
- School-issued ID
- Shelter ID
If your photo ID does not include your current mailing address, please also bring proof of address. Examples include:
- Rental lease
- Utility bill (dated within 45 days)
- Bank statement
- Piece of mail that has a postmark within past 30 days
- Change of address card
- Letter from a shelter manager (dated within 45 days)
Don’t have a photo ID? Photo ID is preferred for registration, however applicants who do not have a photo ID may present one of the following non-photo IDs to get a library card:
- Birth Certificate
- Social Security card
- Health Insurance card
- Other official document with name
Both pieces of information (ID and proof of address) must have the library card applicant’s name.
There are no age restrictions for library card applicants. However, parents or guardians must sign library card applications for children under 12.
Parents or guardians who register their child for a library card are responsible for materials borrowed by those children, and for monitoring their children's access to library resources, including the Internet.
Students 13-18 must have two forms of ID with at least one verifying current address. Students may present a school ID, recent report card or official document/letter from their school to register for a library card if parent or guardian is not present.
Once your new library card has been issued, you can begin using it immediately to check out library books or access patron computers. Adult borrowers, 18 or older, will be limited to 10 books per library card at any given time. Borrowers under 18 will be limited to 5 books per card at any given time. Books will be checked out for 2 weeks and may be renewed two times.
The VLP Library does not charge fines for overdue items. The library strives to provide equal access to information, services, and resources, and fines are a barrier to that access. You will not be charged late fees, but we ask that you return materials on or before the due date.
VLP Library books may only be returned to the Village Learning Place.
The VLP Library card is permanent. The cardholder's name and address must be verified every two years in person.
If you change your name, address, or telephone number, come to the library in person to update your record. If your library card is lost or stolen, please notify the library within 48 hours at (410) 235-2210, ext. 0 or email library@villagelearningplace.org.
The cardholder is responsible for any items borrowed until the loss of the card is reported. There is a $2.00 fee for a replacement card.
